Course details

The British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis (BSCAH) offers various hypnotherapy training courses tailored for healthcare professionals. The flagship "Medical Hypnosis for Healthcare Professionals" course spans three modules over several weekends in March and April 2024. It combines self-directed study with live Zoom sessions involving experiential learning and supervised practice. The curriculum covers induction techniques, managing anxiety and stress, habit disorders, phobias, trauma, and pain management through hypnosis.

Additionally, advanced courses such as the Advanced Diploma in Professional Studies/BSc/Graduate Certificate/PGCert include modules focused on clinical hypnosis, communication, and healthcare language techniques. One-day practical workshops are available in 2025 in London and Liverpool, focusing on pain management, phobias, trauma, and functional disorders.

Introductory workshops provide theoretical and practical hypnosis applications, including trance induction, self-hypnosis, and ethical considerations. Membership benefits encompass peer support, webinars, networking, and access to professional journals and a public referral list.

Costs

Fees range from £75 for a day of hypnosis for members to £750 for combined modules one, two, and three for non-members.

Entry criteria

• Completion of Module 1 is required before progressing to Modules 2 and 3 of the Medical Hypnosis for Healthcare Professionals course.
• For the Clinical Hypnosis, Language, and Communication Techniques in Healthcare course: Professional registration with a UK recognized professional regulatory body (e.g., GMC, GDC, NMC, HCPC, BaDn, BACP (Accredited), BABCP (Accredited)) and workplace support for developing necessary skills.
• Evidence of indemnity insurance for provision of hypnosis as part of professional practice.
• Level 6 course: Evidence of 120 credits at level 4 and 120 credits at level 5 (equivalent to a Foundation Degree or Dip HE) or Advanced Diploma in Professional Studies award.
• Level 7 course: Evidence of a first degree or recent professionally related study at diploma or degree level.
• IELTS score of 6.0 with no element below 5.5 or equivalent for non-native English speakers.
